Our Story
Building Pride in BloomingtonBloomington Pride MN began in 2021 with a simple but powerful goal: to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community through a vibrant, family-friendly festival. Sparked by the City of Bloomington’s official proclamation of June as Pride Month, the event quickly became a symbol of inclusion, joy, and unity for thousands across the region.
From the very first celebration, the festival brought together local businesses, performers, and families to highlight the values of self-affirmation, equal rights, and visibility. In just a few short years, it evolved from a city initiative into a thriving, community-led movement.
Growing into a Community-Led Organization
In 2023, Bloomington Pride MN entered an exciting new chapter. To ensure long-term sustainability and strengthen community ownership, festival leadership transitioned to a newly formed nonprofit. This change allowed the organization to expand its mission beyond the annual event and into year-round education, advocacy, and engagement.
Key Milestones
- Forming a Board of Directors made up of passionate local leaders dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion.
- Establishing our mission to empower and uplift the LGBTQ+ community through inclusive events, education, and persistent advocacy.
- Becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in July 2024, officially recognized for charitable and educational impact.
- Creating a strong foundation, from digital collaboration tools to the launch of an educational YouTube channel.
Recognized for Leadership
On September 30, 2024, the Bloomington City Council publicly honored the Pride board for its leadership and vision. Their efforts in building a sustainable, inclusive nonprofit are now seen as a model for other communities hoping to launch or grow their own LGBTQ+ celebrations.
2025: A Year of Firsts
In June 2025, Bloomington Pride MN hosted its first fully independent festival—and it was a resounding success. With strategic planning, creative fundraising, and a clear focus on safety and celebration, we achieved incredible results.
This milestone marked not only a successful event but a renewed sense of belonging and pride for the entire community.
